What are the types of down jacket fabrics?

May 19, 2020

1. High-density water repellent fabric

The density of the fabric itself is very high, generally above 290T. Then through the high-temperature fusion surface fabric to reduce the post-treatment process of fabric voids, improve the anti-fleece performance. The lightness and softness of the fabric are the highest among all down jacket fabrics, and it also has windproof, water-repellent and breathable properties. This type of fabric is the most widely used fabric for down jackets and down sleeping bags, but the level of post-processing technology has a great influence on the down resistance of the fabric.

    2. Waterproof coating (coated) fabric

This kind of fabric is a bit similar to the jacket fabric, has the performance of waterproof and moisture permeable, generally used for high mountain professional down jackets. But the difference is that the overall fabric will be lighter and softer than the jacket fabric. Also, because down jackets are generally used in cold environments, the main target is the melting water of ice and snow solid water, so the water pressure requirements of the fabric will not be as high as the jackets, and most down jackets made of waterproof fabrics do not require pressure. Glued. Another point to note is that some low-cost down jackets use non-breathable coated fabrics to prevent leakage. If it is only for daily wear, you can barely consider it.

    3. Ordinary woven fabric plus anti-flannel fabric

Generally, low-density nylon or polyester is used. When making down jackets, an anti-flannel cloth is added to the inner side of the fabric, which can play the role of anti-fleece and has a good anti-fleece performance. The disadvantage is that the anti-flannel fabric affects the softness of the down jacket and increases the weight of the whole garment. The most important thing is that if you use inferior anti-flannel cloth, the air permeability of the down jacket will be greatly reduced, and after washing, the anti-flannel cloth is easy to break or agglomerate. Another way is to make an anti-flocking treatment, the process is to brush a layer of anti-flocking glue on the inner layer of the fabric, the fabric feels very bad and is not breathable. Representative fabrics: many, but not well-known fabric manufacturers.
